The Honey-Wagon Team
In the field or in the office, the Honey-Wagon team acts on its commitment to provide exceptional, professional service. Mel is the only inspector in the Kansas City region certified by NAWT. He brings years of experience as an over-the-road truck driver.

So how did Mel get into this business?

Mel and Karen Simmerman started Honey-Wagon in Kansas City in 1986. They received start-up coaching from a friend who started Honey-Wagon in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in 1970. Honey-Wagon has a 35-year history behind it.

The Honey-Wagon team also includes these professionals:

  • Ray is Mel's go-to person in the field. With five years of hands-on experience, Ray is knowledgeable in all aspects of residential and commercial systems.
  • Sandy and Lisa join Karen in the office. Though she's never operated the pumper (we think she probably could), Sandy's knowledge of septic systems and waste regulations rivals Mel's. Having lived in several homes with septic systems, she has had hands-on experience in good maintenance of a septic system. Like Sandy and Karen, Lisa is a true professional. She is detail-oriented, so she will make sure all the information needed to do a thorough job for you is gathered. Sandy & Lisa handle order entry, dispatching, sales, and customer service. Lisa is the go-to person for accounts receivable and Karen, accounts payable and office management.

The Honey-Wagon Difference
So what makes Honey-Wagon different than other septic system pumping and cleaning companies? We hoped you would ask. Four things define the Honey-Wagon difference.

Our People - The people on the Honey-Wagon team know their jobs. They return calls. They get your job done. They are committed to quality and customer satisfaction. They run a clean job site and take care to leave landscaping, driveways, and other features at your home or business in good condition.

Our Expertise - Mel and Karen have nearly 20 years of experience in this business. They have worked on thousands of systems - and earned as many satisfied customers.

Mel completed NAWT's demanding program in sewage treatment, tanks, construction methods, application, and inspection, and passed a rigorous exam to earn national certification as an inspector. In fact, he is the only person to hold NAWT certification in the Kansas City area.

Karen and Mel attend annual industry conferences, and they bring information on new equipment and methods back to the team.

Our Equipment - Honey-Wagon operates two 4,200-gallon aluminum-tank pumper trucks. Why is that important to you? Our large aluminum tanks weigh less than similar tanks of stainless steel. Larger-capacity tanks mean we can complete more jobs with fewer runs to dumping sites - reduced overhead costs we can pass along to customers. And lighter-weight tanks mean less wear and tear on your driveways.

Having a problem locating your septic tank? Not a problem for Honey-Wagon. Our electronic equipment allows us to locate septic tanks in any type of soil or even difficult terrain.

Our Professionalism - Septic systems have a job to do and so do we. We show up at your home or business wearing Honey-Wagon uniforms and committed to providing quality service with top-notch skills. Training helps us stay current with technology, regulatory requirements, and methods.

We belong to industry associations such as NAWT. Honey-Wagon is licensed and bonded, and we carry workers compensation insurance - you should have no concerns about liability.
